It was sponsored by DARPA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darpa.mil\/program\/open-manufacturing\"> Open Manufacturing Program<\/a> and conducted in conjunction with aircraft engine manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/aerospace.honeywell.com\/en\"> Honeywell Aerospace<\/a>, which has been <a href=\"https:\/\/3dprintingindustry.com\/news\/metal-3d-printing-advances-darpa-sigma-labs-honeywell-aerospace-contract-101639\/\"> collaborating with Sigma labs<\/a> since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>As an agency of the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/\"> Department of Defense<\/a> (DoD), DARPA is responsible for the development of emerging technologies for use by the military.
