That\u2019s a bit of a departure from the six successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/64153-mission-moon-3d-photos.html\" data-vars-cd76=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/64153-mission-moon-3d-photos.html\" data-vars-cd115=\"retailer\" data-vars-cd5=\"UfBd4np3PkwrozKcX2h9K4\" data-vars-cd73=\"7669872264209813280\">NASA Apollo moon landings<\/a>, which took place closer to the moon\u2019s equator between 1969 and 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Details of China\u2019s long-term lunar plans are still sketchy, but CSNA has made significant steps toward lunar exploration. Earlier this year, the Chinese successfully landed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/64663-dark-side-moon-colder-china.html\" data-vars-cd76=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/64663-dark-side-moon-colder-china.html\" data-vars-cd115=\"retailer\" data-vars-cd5=\"UfBd4np3PkwrozKcX2h9K4\" data-vars-cd73=\"4531915773727030212\">uncrewed Chang\u2019e-4<\/a> on the far side of the moon, and have also placed astronauts aboard two temporary space stations, Tiangong-1 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/62190-chinese-space-station-tumbles-to-earth.html\" data-vars-cd76=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/62190-chinese-space-station-tumbles-to-earth.html\" data-vars-cd115=\"retailer\" data-vars-cd5=\"UfBd4np3PkwrozKcX2h9K4\" data-vars-cd73=\"1168648741559976859\">Tiangong-2<\/a>.
