For example, physicists recently decided to use them to freeze atoms, and attempts have been very successful: They managed to cool them down to within a millionth of a degree of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TNUDBdv3jWI\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">absolute zero<\/a> (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/newsandevents\/?id=31019\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2013273.15\u00b0C<\/a> or &minus;459.67\u00b0F).<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Sussex<\/a> team, led by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/profiles\/179227\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winifried Hensinger<\/a>, had their results published in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.115.013002\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Physical Review Letters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe use of long-wavelength radiation instead of laser technology to cool ions can tremendously simplify the construction of practical quantum technology devices enabling us to build real devices much faster,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/newsandevents\/?id=31019\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> Professor Hensinger.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iflscience.com\/technology\/scientists-freeze-atoms-absolute-zero-microwaves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\">Read more<\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>:oo.
