The tendency to see some awesome scientific report and base one\u2019s entire position on that one paper. This can be a problem in all areas of science.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>A few months ago, <i>PLOS ONE<\/i> published a study of parental reports on <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1371\/journal.pone.0202330\">gender dysphoria in adolescents and young adults<\/a>, which was the subject of strong criticism and debate shortly after publication (see example <a href=\"https:\/\/slate.com\/human-interest\/2018\/08\/rapid-onset-gender-dysphoria-study-criticism-is-not-censorship-its-good-science.html\">here<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/news\/2018\/08\/new-paper-ignites-storm-over-whether-teens-experience-rapid-onset-transgender-identity\">here<\/a>). We also received a large volume of personal communication, which I have personally reviewed.
