{"id":88555,"date":"2019-03-11T12:42:48","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T19:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2019\/03\/promising-compound-selectively-kills-brain-cancer-stem-cells"},"modified":"2019-03-11T12:42:48","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T19:42:48","slug":"promising-compound-selectively-kills-brain-cancer-stem-cells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2019\/03\/promising-compound-selectively-kills-brain-cancer-stem-cells","title":{"rendered":"Promising compound selectively kills brain cancer stem cells"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/promising-compound-selectively-kills-brain-cancer-stem-cells.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scripps Research scientists have discovered a compound that potently and selectively kills the stem-like cells that make glioblastoma brain cancers so deadly.<\/p>\n<p>In a study published this week in The <i>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/i>, the Scripps Research scientists found that the new compound, which they dubbed RIPGBM, kills <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/glioblastoma\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">glioblastoma<\/a> stem-like cells cultured from patients\u2019 tumors with more than 40 times the potency of the standard GBM drug <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/tags\/temozolomide\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">temozolomide<\/a>.
