The primary mission of the lander (which is <em>not<\/em> a rover) is to study the interior of Mars by drilling below the surface. The goal is to analyze seismic activity and monitor for Marsquakes, which are Earthquakes, except on Mars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCapturing this audio was an unplanned treat,\u201d Bruce Banerdt, of NASA\u2019s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/sound-from-mars-heard-for-first-time-on-earth-nasa-insight-lander\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cBut one of the things [the InSight mission] is dedicated to is measuring motion on Mars, and naturally that includes motion caused by sound waves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- Link: <a href=\"https:\/\/ascienceenthusiast.com\/nasa-releases-first-sounds-ever-recorded-mars\/\">https:\/\/ascienceenthusiast.com\/nasa-releases-first-sounds-ever-recorded-mars\/<\/a> --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, NASA released the first ever audio recording from Mars!
