The danger list is topped by Hawaii\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/volcanoes.usgs.gov\/volcanoes\/kilauea\/status.html\">Kilauea<\/a>, which has been erupting this year. The others in the top five are <a href=\"https:\/\/volcanoes.usgs.gov\/volcanoes\/st_helens\/\">Mount St. Helens<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/volcanoes.usgs.gov\/volcanoes\/mount_rainier\/\">Mount Rainier<\/a> in Washington, Alaska\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/avo.alaska.edu\/activity\/Redoubt.php\">Redoubt Volcano<\/a> and California\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/volcanoes.usgs.gov\/volcanoes\/mount_shasta\/\">Mount Shasta<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis report may come as a surprise to many, but not to volcanologists,\u201d said Concord University volcano expert Janine Krippner. \u201cThe USA is one of the most active countries in the world when it comes to volcanic activity,\u201d she said, noting there have been 120 eruptions in U.S. volcanoes since 1980.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Link: <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/7e14ac1125d046ccbc06224c80d0f94f\">https:\/\/apnews.com\/7e14ac1125d046ccbc06224c80d0f94f<\/a> --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Government scientists have classified 18 U.S. volcanoes as \u201cvery high threat\u201d because of what\u2019s been happening inside them and how close they are to people.
