People with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are more likely to have other mental and behavioral health problems than people without the condition, the study found.<\/p>\n<p>ALS, also called Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease, is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ninds.nih.gov\/Disorders\/Patient-Caregiver-Education\/Fact-Sheets\/Amyotrophic-Lateral-Sclerosis-ALS-Fact-Sheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">progressive neurologic condition<\/a> that affects some 20,000 Americans at any one time. In ALS, a person\u2019s motor neurons throughout their body and brain steadily die off.
