It may not be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/38002-what-do-aliens-look-like\">little green men<\/a>, but it\u2019s pretty darn cool.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement, which comes less than two months after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/42739-nasa-mars-curiosity-rover-martian-milestone\">Curiosity Rover<\/a> found evidence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/45634-nasa-announcement-on-mars-curiosity-rover-discovery\">organic molecules<\/a> on Mars, adds one more piece to the puzzle for scientists searching the planet for signs that it could support life \u2014 or at least could have in the past. And while scientists have long known that Mars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/21042-mars-had-lakes-liquid-water-later-than-we-thought-possible\"><em>used to<\/em> have liquid water<\/a> billions of years ago, the fact that it could still have water is a big deal since there\u2019s a possibility that this water may host living organisms.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers involved in the discovery, a team of Italian astronomers and physicists, published their findings in a <a href=\"http:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/cgi\/doi\/10.1126\/science.aau1829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paper<\/a> in the journal <em>Science<\/em>.
