Chemotherapy drugs are wrapped in \u201cnano-bubbles\u201d called liposomes, which are then injected into the desired part of the body and made to release their payload on demand, by applying X-ray radiation.<\/p>\n<p>Liposomes are regularly used to protect drugs and carry them to where in the body they\u2019re needed. Over the years, we\u2019ve seen them used to <a href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/insulin-layersomes\/30206\/\" target=\"_blank\">protect insulin<\/a> doses from the harsh environment of the gut long enough for it to enter the bloodstream, <a href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/lipsomes-fight-bacterial-infections-without-antibiotics\/34548\/\" target=\"_blank\">disarm bacteria<\/a> without using antibiotics, and escort <a href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/protective-bubble-prostate-cancer\/42411\/\" target=\"_blank\">cancer-killers to tumors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLiposomes are already well established as an extremely effective drug-delivery system,\u201d says Wei Deng, lead author of the study. \u201cMade out of similar material as cell membranes, these \u2018bubbles\u2019 are relatively simple to prepare, can be filled with appropriate medications and then injected into specific parts of the body.
