It may depend on how many natural killer cells you have"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/will-you-get-sick-next-flu-season-it-may-depend-on-how-many-natural-killer-cells-you-have2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s imagine it\u2019s mid flu season, and a stranger at the grocery store sneezes on you.<\/p>\n<p>Wouldn\u2019t it be great to know if you\u2019re destined for weeks of sweats and chills; or if, by the grace of your immune system, you might just make it out unscathed?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.stanford.edu\/purveshkumar-khatri\">Purvesh Khatri<\/a>, PhD, associate professor of medicine at Stanford, has discovered a biomarker in the blood may be able to do just that. It\u2019s a gene that codes for a protein that lives on the surface of a type of immune cell known as a \u201cnatural killer\u201d cell.
