{"id":79726,"date":"2018-06-19T11:42:25","date_gmt":"2018-06-19T18:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2018\/06\/interaction-of-paired-and-lined-up-electrons-can-be-manipulated-in-semiconductors"},"modified":"2018-06-21T13:02:17","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T20:02:17","slug":"interaction-of-paired-and-lined-up-electrons-can-be-manipulated-in-semiconductors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2018\/06\/interaction-of-paired-and-lined-up-electrons-can-be-manipulated-in-semiconductors","title":{"rendered":"Interaction of paired and lined-up electrons can be manipulated in semiconductors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/interaction-of-paired-and-lined-up-electrons-can-be-manipulated-in-semiconductors2.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The way that electrons paired as composite particles or arranged in lines interact with each other within a semiconductor provides new design opportunities for electronics, according to recent findings in <i>Nature Communications<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>What this means for <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/semiconductor+components\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">semiconductor components<\/a>, such as those that send information throughout <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/electronic+devices\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">electronic devices<\/a>, is not yet clear, but hydrostatic <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/pressure\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">pressure<\/a> can be used to tune the interaction so that electrons paired as composite particles switch between paired, or \u201csuperconductor-like,\u201d and lined-up, or \u201cnematic,\u201d phases. Forcing these phases to interact also suggests that they can influence each other\u2019s properties, like stability \u2013 opening up possibilities for manipulation in electronic devices and quantum computing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can literally have hundreds of different phases of electrons organizing themselves in different ways in a semiconductor,\u201d said G\u00e1bor Cs\u00e1thy, Purdue professor of physics and astronomy. \u201cWe found that two in particular can actually talk to each other in the presence of hydrostatic pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- Link: <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2018-06-interaction-paired-lined-up-electrons-semiconductors.html\">https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2018&#45;06-interaction-paired-lined-u...ctors.html<\/a> --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The way that electrons paired as composite particles or arranged in lines interact with each other within a semiconductor provides new design opportunities for electronics, according to recent findings in Nature Communications.
