That\u2019s because they don\u2019t really benefit from it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/10.1056\/NEJMoa1804710\">according to a study<\/a> published Sunday in the New England Journal of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Those patients: those diagnosed with early-stage, invasive, hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer who scored in a specific range of a genetic test. They benefit just as much from <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.udel.edu\/chem\/C465\/senior\/fall98\/Cancer2\/methods.html\">chemotherapy<\/a>, which many don\u2019t tolerate well and can have long-term consequences, as they do from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancercenter.com\/treatments\/hormone-therapy\/\">hormone treatments<\/a>, which have many fewer side effects.<\/p>\n<p>But before this study came out, many people in this group were prescribed chemotherapy because doctors had, based on the best information available, assumed it would help them.
