We\u2019ve all heard the news about <a href=\"https:\/\/techxplore.com\/tags\/lithium\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">lithium<\/a> ion batteries in phones\u2014most notably the Samsung Galaxy 7\u2014causing phones to catch fire.<\/p>\n<p>Much of the problem arises from the use of flammable liquid electrolyte inside the battery. One approach is to use a non-flammable solid electrolyte together with a lithium metal electrode.
