In search of inspiration, Sn\u00f8hetta\u2019s designers took astronomy classes and were captivated by the architecture of the galaxy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe learned about the <a href=\"https:\/\/dept.astro.lsa.umich.edu\/resources\/ugactivities\/Labs\/analemma\/index.html\">eight shaped analemma<\/a> diagram that the moon and the sun makes if you watch them from the same point over 365 days,\u201d says Skaare. \u201cWe were especially inspired by the \u2018ugly moons\u2019 of Mars, with its funny shape,\u201d she says referring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/image-feature\/jpl\/pia22248\/mars-odyssey-observes-martian-moons\">Phobos and Deimos<\/a>, the red-planet\u2019s two lumpy satellites.<\/p>\n<p>Mars\u2019s lumpy-potato moons, in fact, inspired the shape of Solobservatoriet\u2019s visitor cabins. Surrounding the planetarium are several imperfect-sphere rooms for stargazers who want to spend the an evening in the forest\u2014perhaps to catch the spectacular Northern Lights.
