And Columbia University\u2019s Creative Machines Lab may have already done it. \u201cThese robots learn overtime, to stimulate themselves in a future situation they haven\u2019t actually experienced.\u201d said Dr. Hod Lipson, the mechanical engineering professor leading the lab\u2019s push to create self-aware robots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn other words, they don\u2019t have to learn by doing,\u201d Lipson told VICE News. \u201cThey can learn by thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The robotics department at UC Berkley has made similar advancements with their self-teaching robot BRETT.
