Driverless vehicles of all kinds are set to revolutionize the cargo industry, too, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/08\/29\/self-driving-ford-fusion-dominos-michigan\/\">delivering a pizza<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/12\/01\/amazon-granted-patent-for-self-destructing-drones\/\">dropping off an Amazon package<\/a>, to hauling much larger shipments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/01\/25\/singapore-full-scale-autonomous-truck-platooning-trial\/\">across continents<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/06\/09\/self-navigating-cargo-ships-ai-plot-course\/\">high seas<\/a>. Naturally, Boeing is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/03\/27\/natilus-air-freight-drone\/\">many companies<\/a> investing in cargo planes of tomorrow, and is keen to show off some of its early work in the form of a huge octocopter capable of carrying loads of up to 500 pounds (over 250kg). In less than three months, engineers at Boeing built and carried out successful test flights of the all-electric prototype, possibly (but unofficially) breaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2016\/01\/20\/drone-sets-a-record-for-carrying-the-heaviest-cargo-ever\/\">a Guinness world record<\/a> in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The rough-and-ready concoction of metal and batteries measures 15 feet long, 18 feet wide and 4 feet tall, weighing in at 747 pounds (nearly 339kg). In other words, it dwarfs the consumer DJI drone you got for Christmas.
