In 2017 alone, China has outpaced the United States in <a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/07\/18\/technology\/china-us-clean-energy-solar-farm\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">renewable energy efforts<\/a> and has become the standard-bearer in <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2017\/06\/how-china-and-us-compare-on-climate-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">combating climate change<\/a> and <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2017\/01\/chinas-xi-jinping-defends-globalization-from-the-davos-stage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocacy for globalization<\/a>. Similarly, China is rapidly moving towards taking the lead in technology from the United States and is looking at quantum computing and artificial intelligence as areas for growth to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The Verge recently published <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/11\/1\/16592338\/eric-schmidt-google-ai-competition-us-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an article<\/a> citing Alphabet chief executive officer Eric Schmidt\u2019s perspective that the United States is falling behind when it comes to research and development in artificial intelligence, particularly compared to the rapid pace of innovation that China has set in the field.
