While the discovery is surprising, it\u2019s definitely a welcome one. Water on Mars can help future exploration missions.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s long been known that <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/mars-wet-era-was-longer-and-wetter-than-we-thought-by-about-a-billion-years\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mars had large bodies of water<\/a> some millions of years ago. Traces of these ancient Martian lakes and oceans <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/we-just-found-new-evidence-of-water-on-mars\/\" target=\"_blank\">have been found<\/a> in recent years, thanks to information provided by probes and landers, like <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/curiosity-delivers-new-evidence-that-life-could-have-thrived-on-mars\/\" target=\"_blank\">NASA\u2019s Curiosity rover<\/a> and the Odyssey spacecraft that currently orbits the red planet.
