The idea, called universal basic income (UBI), is for every individual to be paid a regular sum of money regardless of employment status.<\/p>\n<p>One of the tech elite who has an interest in universal basic income is self-made multimillionaire and <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.ycombinator.com\/moving-forward-on-basic-income\/\" title=\"https:\/\/blog.ycombinator.com\/moving-forward-on-basic-income\/\">Y Combinator President Sam Altman<\/a>. \u201cEliminating poverty is such a moral imperative and something that I believe in so strongly,\u201d Altman tells <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/103395579\">CNBC Make It<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much research about how bad poverty is.
