But what if your smartphone could do more of the processing directly on your device \u2014 allowing for smarter, faster apps?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">MIT<\/a> scientists have taken a step in that direction with a new way to enable artificial-intelligence systems called <a href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2017\/explained-neural-networks-deep-learning-0414\" target=\"_blank\">convolutional neural networks<\/a> (CNNs) to run locally on mobile devices. (CNN\u2019s are used in areas such as autonomous driving, speech recognition, computer vision, and automatic translation.)
