That is how I would sum up Astronaut Neil Armstrong\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>This reminds me of the Bible verse, Matthew 22:14 \u201cFor many are invited, but few are chosen.\u201d What an honor.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times described him as a \u201c \u2026 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/08\/26\/science\/space\/neil-armstrong-dies-first-man-on-moon.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_moc.semityn.www\">quiet, private man, at heart an engineer and crack test pilot<\/a> \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I was very moved on hearing of his final journey, and I don\u2019t know why. I was 11 years old when I watched him walk on the moon, on black &amp; white TV, in a small town in what was then considered the backwaters of Peninsula Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia had just gone through the trauma of race riots of May 13<sup>th<\/sup> between the native born peoples of Chinese and Malay descent.<\/p>\n<p>And here was America on the other side of the world, the other side of race relations, and the other side of the technological spectrum. They had put together a small band of engineers, called NASA, on a promise and a prayer that these engineers would do good with our tax payers\u2019 money. Neil Armstrong was one of them.<\/p>\n<p>They did.<\/p>\n<p>When he set foot on lunar soil he did not say \u201c\u2026 that\u2019s one small step for man, one giant leap for America \u2026 \u201d instead he said \u201c \u2026 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/articles\/health_and_science\/science\/2012\/08\/neil_armstrong_s_moon_landing_quote_did_he_say_one_small_step_for_a_man_.html\">that\u2019s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind<\/a> \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Lord be with you, Neil.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many are prepared but only one was called.
