Will Americans learn to love their leisure time? As the spotlight focuses on AI and its various implementations, former Harvard Professor Jeffrey Sachs, now at Columbia University and a special adviser to the United Nations, has some strong and diverse opinions about the macroeconomic impact of robots on the role of work in the future.<\/p>\n<p>At a Mar. 24 seminar hosted by MIT IDE \u2014 the same day <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2017\/treasury-steve-mnuchin-ai-impact-jobs\/\" data-href=\"http:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2017\/treasury-steve-mnuchin-ai-impact-jobs\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin<\/a> amazed the tech community by saying AI wasn\u2019t even on his radar \u2014 Sachs described AI developments as a \u201chuge\u201d with implications as vast as any previous seismic technology wave. \u201cWe are in the midst of a major transformation\u201d that will fundamentally change civilization from the past, he said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Link: <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/mit-initiative-on-the-digital-economy\/redefining-work-income-in-the-ai-economy-881d9978b10d\">https:\/\/medium.com\/mit-initiative-on-the-digital-economy\/red...1d9978b10d<\/a> --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Paula Klein Is work becoming obsolete?
