And with each new study published, the fear of robots, machines, and artificial intelligence coming to take our jobs ticks higher.<\/p>\n<p>But a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/global-themes\/digital-disruption\/harnessing-automation-for-a-future-that-works\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report from McKinsey<\/a> finds that the future of work and automation isn\u2019t quite the zero-sum game when it comes to jobs as some perceive.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, 51% of <i>job activities<\/i> could be automated with \u201ccurrently demonstrated\u201d technology, the McKinsey report says. The distinction is noteworthy: McKinsey isn\u2019t saying half of all jobs can be automated with existing technology, but rather job tasks. <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/this-graphic-shows-how-vulnerable-every-type-of-job-is-to-automation-171925640.html\">Many jobs involve a blend of both the mundane and the intricate<\/a>. Machines are excellent at handling rote, predictable tasks like repetitive physical labor and data collection and processing, making jobs like <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/this-graphic-shows-how-vulnerable-every-type-of-job-is-to-automation-171925640.html\">retail, foodservice, and manufacturing <\/a>\u2014a big theme in the 2016 campaign\u2014most affected.
