As Szombatfalvy writes in a <a href=\"https:\/\/api.globalchallenges.org\/static\/files\/prize-letter-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">letter<\/a> published on the Foundation\u2019s website:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The greatest threats we face today transcend national boundaries; they therefore need to be addressed jointly by all countries based on an increased realization of our mutual dependence. [\u2026] Our current international system \u2013 including but not limited to the United Nations \u2014 was set up in another era following the Second World War. It is no longer fit for purpose to deal with 21st century risks that can affect people anywhere in the world. We urgently need fresh new thinking in order to address the scale and gravity of today\u2019s global challenges, which have outgrown the present system\u2019s ability to handle them. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/globalchallenges.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Global Challenges Prize 2017: A New Shape<\/a><\/em> is calling on individuals, groups of individuals, universities, companies or associations from anywhere in the world to submit proposals outlining an alternative world governance model \u2013 either by revising the present UN system, or by proposing completely new forms of governance.
