It\u2019s actually filled with quantum energy and particles that blink in and out of existence for a fleeting moment \u2014 strange signals that are known as quantum fluctuations.<\/p>\n<p>For decades, there had only ever been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/news\/2015\/10\/physicists-observe-weird-quantum-fluctuations-empty-space-maybe\">indirect evidence<\/a> of these fluctuations, but <a href=\"http:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/350\/6259\/420\">back in 2015<\/a>, researchers claimed to have detected the theoretical fluctuations directly.
