When you can use synthetic biology and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanalyze.com\/2015\/04\/7-gene-editing-companies-investors-should-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\">gene editing<\/a> to change the way that bacteria function by genetically modifying them, the result are microscopic biological machines. These tiny biological machines sound a whole lot like the nanobots that we were promised which would go around doing cool things without even being visible to the human eye. Earlier this year we profiled three companies that we claimed were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanalyze.com\/2016\/03\/3-companies-building-nanorobot-factories\/\" target=\"_blank\">working on building nanobot factories<\/a> that create designer organisms on demand. Let\u2019s take a closer look at one of these companies called Ginkgo Bioworks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-right: 20px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/ginkgo-bioworks-nanobots-are-finally-here2.jpg\" alt=\"ginkgo-bioworks-logo\" width=\"304\" height=\"78\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.nanalyze.com\/app\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Ginkgo-Bioworks-Logo.jpg 304w, http:\/\/www.nanalyze.com\/app\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Ginkgo-Bioworks-Logo-300x77.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 304px)  100vw, 304px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2008, Massachusetts based startup Ginkgo Bioworks has taken in a total of <strong>$154 million<\/strong> in funding so far with their latest $100 million Series C round closing in summer of this year. The Company refers to themselves as \u201cthe organism company\u201d and their value proposition has attracted investment from a whole slew of investors who realize the potential of developing new organisms that can <em>replace technology with biology<\/em>.
