Can Teach Itself to Recognize Faces Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/a-i-can-teach-itself-to-recognize-faces-now.jpeg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The goal of roboticists has long been to make A.I. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inverse.com\/article\/14092-neurorobotics-s-bringing-the-efficiency-of-the-human-brain-to-a-i-robots\">as efficient as the human brain<\/a>, and researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology just brought them one step closer.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2016\/machine-learning-system-brain-recognizes-faces-1201\" target=\"_blank\">a recent paper<\/a>, published in the journal <em>Biology<\/em>, scientists were able to successfully train a neural network to recognize faces at different angles by feeding it a set of different orientations for several face templates. Although this only initially gave the neural network the ability to roughly reach invariance \u2014 the ability to process data regardless of form \u2014 over time, the network taught itself to achieve full <a href=\"http:\/\/human-brain.org\/mirror.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cmirror symmetry<\/a>.
