{"id":32326,"date":"2016-11-30T23:49:16","date_gmt":"2016-12-01T07:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/tennessine-element-117-officially-named"},"modified":"2017-06-04T14:00:32","modified_gmt":"2017-06-04T21:00:32","slug":"tennessine-element-117-officially-named","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/tennessine-element-117-officially-named","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Tennessine\u2019: Element 117 officially named"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/tennessine-element-117-officially-named.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The recently discovered element 117 has been officially named \u201ctennessine\u201d in recognition of Tennessee\u2019s contributions to its discovery, including the efforts of the Department of Energy\u2019s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and its Tennessee collaborators at Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe presence of tennessine on the Periodic Table is an affirmation of our state\u2019s standing in the international scientific community, including the facilities ORNL provides to that community as well as the knowledge and expertise of the laboratory\u2019s scientists and technicians,\u201d ORNL Director Thom Mason said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe historic discovery of tennessine is emblematic of the contributions Tennessee institutions like Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University make toward a better world,\u201d Tennessee Gov.
