Time to die.\u201d \u2014 Roy Batty, Blade Runner<\/p>\n<p>Artificial intelligence has fascinated mankind for more than half a century, with the first public mention of computer intelligence recorded during a London lecture by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alanturing.net\/turing_archive\/pages\/reference%20articles\/what_is_AI\/What%20is%20AI03.html\">Alan Turing in 1947<\/a>. More recently, the public has been exposed to headlines that have increasingly contained references to the growing power of AI, whether that\u2019s been <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2016\/3\/14\/11219258\/google-deepmind-alphago-go-challenge-ai-future\">AlphaGo\u2019s defeat of legendary Go player Lee Se-dol<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2016\/03\/24\/microsoft-silences-its-new-a-i-bot-tay-after-twitter-users-teach-it-racism\/\">Microsoft\u2019s racist AI bot named Tay<\/a> or any other number of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/search\/a.i.#stq=a.i.&stp=1\">new developments in the machine learning field<\/a>.
