{"id":31481,"date":"2016-10-28T21:48:38","date_gmt":"2016-10-29T04:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/synthetic-human-genome-project-releases-its-draft-timeline"},"modified":"2017-06-04T09:19:08","modified_gmt":"2017-06-04T16:19:08","slug":"synthetic-human-genome-project-releases-its-draft-timeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/synthetic-human-genome-project-releases-its-draft-timeline","title":{"rendered":"Synthetic human genome project releases its draft timeline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"aligncenter blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/synthetic-human-genome-project-releases-its-draft-timeline.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The research group behind an effort to synthesize a human genome this week released more information about its plans, including a <a href=\"http:\/\/engineeringbiologycenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/GP-Write_WhitePaper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">draft white paper<\/a> with a timeline of how the research might go.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the latest step in the ambitious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/06\/02\/project-human-genome-synthesis\/\" target=\"_blank\">project<\/a>, originally named \u201cHuman Genome Project-Write,\u201d which came to light after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/05\/13\/harvard-meeting-synthetic-genome\/\" target=\"_blank\">May meeting<\/a> to discuss the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2016\/06\/02\/synthetic-human-genome\/\" target=\"_blank\">building of large genomes<\/a> from off-the-shelf parts.<\/p>\n<p>Within a year, the international group will select one small-scale research project to kick off the effort, and start a \u201cmajor effort to engage with representative members of the public,\u201d according to the draft road map.
