{"id":31293,"date":"2016-10-21T11:47:21","date_gmt":"2016-10-21T18:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/caloric-restriction-can-be-beneficial-to-the-brain-study-shows"},"modified":"2017-04-24T19:26:42","modified_gmt":"2017-04-25T02:26:42","slug":"caloric-restriction-can-be-beneficial-to-the-brain-study-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/caloric-restriction-can-be-beneficial-to-the-brain-study-shows","title":{"rendered":"Caloric restriction can be beneficial to the brain, study shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"blog-photo\" href=\"https:\/\/lifeboat.com\/blog.images\/logo.caloric-restriction-can-be-beneficial-to-the-brain-study-shows.gif\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Studies of different animal species suggest a link between eating less and living longer, but the molecular mechanisms by which caloric restriction affords protection against disease and extends longevity are not well understood.<\/p>\n<p>New clues to help solve the mystery are presented in an article published in the September issue of <em>Aging Cell<\/em> by scientists at the Center for Research on Redox Processes in Biomedicine (Redoxoma), one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) funded by FAPESP.<\/p>\n<p>The results of in vitro and in vivo experiments performed by the Redoxoma team included the finding that a 40% reduction in dietary caloric intake increases mitochondrial calcium retention in situations where intracellular calcium levels are pathologically high.
