To that effect in 2008, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com.au\/2008-elon-musk-broke-divorce-tesla-spacex-2014-10\">he almost went broke<\/a> funding SpaceX \u2013 his then-new aerospace company \u2013 to keep developing next-generation rockets.<\/p>\n<p>And on Tuesday, at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com.au\/elon-musk-spacex-rocket-explosion-2016-9\">a challenging moment<\/a> in the 14-year-old company\u2019s history, Musk plans to unveil his grand vision: to turn Mars into a \u201cbackup drive\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com.au\/how-spacex-rocket-landing-works-2016-4\">save humanity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spacex.com\/mars\">big announcement<\/a> is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27 at 2:30pm EDT during the 67th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
