But as he looked up at <em>Endeavour<\/em> and pondered human space exploration, the pharmacologist wondered, \u201cWhat if a crew runs out of medicine halfway to Mars?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A lot of things can go wrong during a three-year mission to Mars, and there\u2019s only so much medicine you can pack. \u201cFor food you can predict exactly how much the astronauts will need to eat,\u201d says Wang. \u201cMedicine you can\u2019t predict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What if they develop a sudden need for a drug that wasn\u2019t packed?
