Link opens in new tab.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.medschool.pitt.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Pittsburgh<\/a> have identified the neural networks that connect the cerebral cortex to the adrenal medulla \u2014 the inner part of the adrenal gland, located above each kidney, which is responsible for the body\u2019s rapid response in stressful situations.<\/p>\n<p>These findings, reported in the online Early Edition of the journal <em><a title=\"Follow link for more information. Link opens in new tab.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/a><\/em> PNAS), provide evidence for the neural basis of a mind-body connection.
