A provisional patent application has been filed.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike conventional <a href=\"http:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/solar+cells\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">solar cells<\/a>, which convert sunlight into electricity that must be stored in heavy batteries, the new device essentially does the work of plants, converting <a href=\"http:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/atmospheric+carbon+dioxide\/\" rel=\"tag\" class=\"\">atmospheric carbon dioxide<\/a> into fuel, solving two crucial problems at once.
