Because DNA is foldable and \u201csticky,\u201d they\u2019ve begun making microscopic shapes called DNA origami. Over the last decade or so, researchers have improved at this DNA art, and now, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.caltech.edu\/news\/dna-origami-lights-microscopic-glowing-van-gogh-51280\">Caltech scientists say<\/a> they used DNA to sketch a glowing masterpiece \u2014 a replica of Vincent van Gogh\u2019s famous painting \u201cThe Starry Night\u201d\u2014 on a canvas the size of a dime.<\/p>\n<p>While the mini-van Gogh is neat \u2014 if a little fuzzy and monochromatic \u2014 the demonstration shows the technique may be approaching more practical uses. One of the difficulties of making technologies ever-smaller is figuring out how to precisely place components.
