Just surprised Amazon wasn\u2019t already fully robotic.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Amazon\u2019s progress toward an army of helpful <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hitc.com\/en-gb\/topic\/robots\/\">robots<\/a> is one step closer: a prize for the best warehouse-working \u201cpicker\u201d machine has gone to a robot designed by a team from TU Delft Robotics Institute and Delft Robotics, both based in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>The competition was held in conjunction with Germany\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robocup2016.org\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Robocup<\/a> in Leipzig. Announced on Monday, the winners took home $25,000, while the university of Bonn\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nimbro.net\/robots.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">NimbRo<\/a> won $10,000 for second place and Japanese firm PFN was awarded $5,000 for third.<\/p>\n<p>The contest, in Amazon\u2019s words, \u201caimed to strengthen the ties between the industrial and academic robotic communities,\u201d and ended with slightly fewer than half of the entrants scoring more than 20 out of 40 possible points, according to a report in TechRepublic.
