Think again.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>A new initiative from the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence aims to create an intelligent surveillance system that can analyze live video and spot suspicious behavior in real time. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defenseone.com\/technology\/2016\/06\/new-us-spy-software-could-soon-spot-your-suspicious-behavior-live-video\/128852\/?oref=DefenseOneTCO\">According to <em>Defense One<\/em><\/a>, the research project is called Deep Intermodal Video Analytics (a.k.a. DIVA) and it will be a joint effort between academics, the private sector and ODNI\u2019s Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency.<\/p>\n<p>In an announcement, IARPA officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbo.gov\/utils\/view?id=e3dadd7144aef41b6060e54a44896d8f\">laid out the project\u2019s goals<\/a>: \u201cThe DIVA program will produce a common framework and software prototype for activity detection, person\/object detection and recognition across a multicamera network,\u201d IARPA officials wrote. \u201cThe impact will be the development of tools for forensic analysis, as well as real-time alerting for user-defined threat scenarios.\u201d In other words: the system should be able to identify suspicious behavior in real-time.<\/p>\n<p>One of the problems with existing systems is that they can identify individual people or objects, but not many of them at the same time, or the complex interactions between them.
