The findings offer new clues about brain cells and biological processes that could contribute to the disease.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-11206-y?utm_source=sdrn%3Avg%3Aarticle%3AOgKR7b\" id=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-11206-y?utm_source=sdrn%3Avg%3Aarticle%3AOgKR7b\">The study<\/a>, which pooled data from 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/research\">research<\/a> groups, analyzed genetic data from approximately 2.8 million people, including 183,620 with an Alzheimer\u2019s diagnosis. Researchers identified 127 regions in human DNA associated with the risk of developing the disease, 48 of which had not yet been discovered in this context.<\/p>\n<p>One of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/study\">study<\/a>\u2019s authors, Emil Uffelmann of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands, told<em> Newsweek<\/em>: We identified 48 new regions of the genome linked to Alzheimer\u2019s disease risk, and our results point to microglia, the brain\u2019s immune cells, as well as specific types of neurons.
