He has spent more than two decades with Privacy International, taking on fights against mass surveillance that most people had written off as lost, and winning more of them than anyone expected.<\/p>\n<p>At one point I asked him to define #privacy. No notes, no textbook answer. What came back has stayed with me ever since:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ability to establish the conditions by which we are seen, perceived, understood, and how we project ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now read that again with 2026 in mind.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, the ones doing the seeing were mostly cameras, phones, and IMSI catchers. Today it\u2019s #AI systems that don\u2019t just watch us. They interpret us. They predict us. Increasingly, they speak for us.
