How much sugar, fat or protein was in the meal?\u201d But through our research, we have become interested in another question: \u201cWhen did I eat it?\u201d This matters because metabolism does not work at the same pace throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>The liver, one of our main metabolic organs, follows daily rhythms that help coordinate how nutrients are processed, stored and used. These rhythms are controlled partly by the <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/news\/2024-04-circadian-rhythms-drugs-effectiveness.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\">molecular circadian clock<\/a>, present in virtually all body cells, but eating also provides an important signal.<\/p>\n<p>In our recent study <a href=\"https:\/\/linkinghub.elsevier.com\/retrieve\/pii\/S2211124726008521\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in <i>Cell Reports<\/i>, we set out to understand how the timing of food intake influences these daily metabolic rhythms. What we found points to a mitochondrial enzyme, ACSF3, as a potential link between feeding time and the temporal organization of liver metabolism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When we think about metabolism, we usually ask, \u201cWhat did I eat?
