The <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceworld.wolfram.com\/physics\/SchroedingerEquation.html\">Schr\u00f6dinger equation<\/a> is the foundational equation of quantum mechanics \u2014 the area of physics focused on the smallest particles in the Universe. There\u2019s no reason to expect one to have anything to do with the other.<\/p>\n<p>But according to a team of French physicists, it\u2019s possible to translate a huge number of problems in game theory into the language of quantum mechanics. <a href=\"http:\/\/journals.aps.org\/prl\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevLett.116.128701\">In a new paper<\/a>, they show that electrons and fish follow the exact same mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Schr\u00f6dinger is famous in popular culture for his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencealert.com\/physicists-have-proved-quantum-spookiness-and-now-they-re-chasing-schroedinger-s-cat\">weird cat<\/a>, but he\u2019s famous to physicists for being the first to write down an equation that fully describes the weird things that happen when you try to do experiments on the fundamental constituents of matter.
