The findings, <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/smll.202514547\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in <i>Small<\/i>, address one of the biggest challenges facing modern gene medicine\u2014getting fragile therapeutic material to the right place inside cells.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are introducing <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2025-03-dna-lipid-nanoparticles-poised-gene.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\">salt-loaded lipid nanoparticles<\/a> as a novel and broadly applicable design principle for gene delivery,\u201d said Fanfei Meng, assistant professor and Presidential Frontier Faculty member in the Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences. \u201cWhat makes this exciting is that we can significantly improve delivery efficiency without needing to invent entirely new materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lipid nanoparticles, or LNPs, are tiny fat-based delivery vehicles widely used to transport fragile genetic material into cells. They became widely recognized during the COVID-19 pandemic through mRNA vaccines developed by Moderna and Pfizer.
