Understanding this helps explain why some cancer cells manage to survive treatment, paving the way for more tailored diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.<\/p>\n<p>The study, <a href=\"https:\/\/aacrjournals.org\/cancerdiscovery\/article\/doi\/10.1158\/2159-8290.CD-25-0964\/785740\/A-pan-cancer-single-cell-analysis-of-intratumoral?guestAccessKey=\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in <i>Cancer Discovery<\/i>, was led by Nicholas Navin, Ph.D., chair of Systems Biology. The research shows that cancer cells do not evolve slowly over time, but rather grow through sudden bursts of rapid genetic changes that include <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/news\/2022-04-genetic-greatest-cancer-death.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\">copy number alterations<\/a> (CNAs)\u2014gains or losses of entire sections of DNA.
