A new custom-built biological \u201cwire\u201d developed at Duke University School of Medicine points the way toward a new treatment approach\u2014bypassing broken brain connections, rather than relying on long-term medication or external stimulation.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers led by Kafui Dzirasa, MD, Ph.D., have developed a technology called <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2025-05-microscopy-method-reconstruct-mammalian-brain.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\" target=\"_blank\">LinCx<\/a> that allows scientists to create new electrical connections between carefully chosen neurons. Unlike existing tools that often influence many cells at once, this approach enables selective, long-lasting changes in how defined brain circuits function. The study is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-10501-y\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in Nature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy introducing a way to plug in new electrical connections with cellular-level precision, our study marks a major step forward in the ability to edit brain circuitry and understand how neural networks give rise to behavior,\u201d said Dzirasa, the A.
