Some \u2013 the attention and sensory systems \u2013 result in very similar experiences of the world: what colour the sky is, how warm the day feels.<\/p>\n<p>But there is another, deeper side to the brain which weaves together your memories, goals, beliefs and emotions into a continuous sense of self. This allows you to experience the world not as it is, but as it matters to you personally.<\/p>\n<p>This unique inner world is supported by the brain\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/direct.mit.edu\/jocn\/article\/36\/6\/1021\/120299\/Roles-of-the-Default-Mode-Network-in-Different\">default mode network<\/a> (DMN).
