Shedding new light on the development and spread of early domestic dogs, the findings are documented in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-10170-x\" target=\"_blank\">two<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-026-10112-7\" target=\"_blank\">papers<\/a> published in Nature.<\/p>\n<p>Providing fascinating insights into dogs\u2019 relationships with people and their rapid spread across Europe and Anatolia, the work involved zooarchaeologists from University College London, University of Liverpool and based in Turkey and ancient DNA and isotope teams from the Natural History Museum, the Universities of Oxford and York, the Francis Crick Institute, and LMU Munich.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the key excavation sites used are led by the University of Liverpool\u2019s Professor Douglas Baird\u2014P\u0131narba\u015f\u0131 excavated with Karaman museum and Boncuklu excavated with co-directors Professor Fairbairn, University of Queensland and Associate Professor Mustafao\u011dlu, Ankara Hac\u0131 Bayram Veli University.
