The findings are <a href=\"https:\/\/linkinghub.elsevier.com\/retrieve\/pii\/S0039914025016480\" target=\"_blank\">published<\/a> in the journal Talanta.<\/p>\n<p>The paper is titled \u201cLabel free paper sensor and light driven material for the rapid screening of S100P cancer biomarker in saliva.\u201d Corresponding author, Associate Professor Emad Kiriakous, from QUT\u2019s School of Chemistry and Physics, said this technology could pave the way for simple, low-cost, point-of-care screening tools to help identify and treat cancer early.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Kiriakous said the QUT team developed a rapid testing technique of saliva using paper coated in <a href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2023-03-nanobiosensor-sars-cov-.html?utm_source=embeddings&utm_medium=related&utm_campaign=internal\" rel=\"related\" target=\"_blank\">gold and silver nanoparticles<\/a> to create a highly sensitive sensor that records the Raman spectrum (or SERS, the process by which a substance scatters laser light which is used to identify molecules) of saliva samples.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QUT researchers have developed a simple one-hour saliva test for a protein biomarker that has been linked with oral, colon and pancreatic cancers.
