Now, it can be one of the brightest places thanks to the Advanced Radiographic Capability (ARC), NIF\u2019s laser-within-a-laser. How this is possible and how it\u2019s measured is detailed in a paper in <i>Physics of Plasmas<\/i> titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.aip.org\/aip\/pop\/article\/32\/12\/123102\/3373886\/Development-and-scaling-of-MeV-x-ray-radiography\" target=\"_blank\">Development and scaling of MeV X-ray radiography at NIF-ARC<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis paper is a culmination of 13 NIF experiments over five years of data gathering, analyzing experiments, modeling and refining diagnostics,\u201d said LLNL physicist Dean Rusby, the paper\u2019s first author. \u201cWe\u2019re able to create and measure an MeV X-ray source that can\u2019t be done anywhere else on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory\u2019s National Ignition Facility (NIF) is the hottest place on Earth for the briefest of moments during an experiment.
